Pat AcostaDirector Pat Acosta was originally appointed in March, 2002 to fill a vacancy in Division Four. In November, 2002, she was elected to serve a four-year term. She chairs the Groundwater Quality Committee, and is a member of the Water Resources Committee.
A longtime community activist, Director Acosta has extensive experience in the public and private sectors. In 2005, Director Acosta was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Bay-Delta Public Advisory Committee. Click here to read the press release. Director Acosta is a limited partner for Southland News Publications and vice president of marketing at ShoePort, a family business in South Gate. She has also worked as a consultant for AIDS Project Los Angeles, the Old Timers Foundation and Sebastian International.
Director Acosta, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, has been active in various community organizations. She is past president of the Southeast Community Development Corporation, which consisted of elected officials and community residents from eight Southeast Los Angeles County cities. In 2001, she was appointed by California Insurance Commissioner Harry Low to serve on the Insurance Commission as the state's consumer representative for the California Automobile At-Risk Program.
Ms. Acosta holds a degree in Latin American Studies from UCLA and attended the Executive Management Program at USC. She is a member of the California Insurance Commission, the South Gate Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Western Shoe Retail Association Board and the UCLA Alumni Association.
Division Four includes the communities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Downey, Huntington Park, Lynwood, Maywood, Montebello, Monterey Park, South Gate, and Vernon .
