WRD Welcomes Education and Partnerships Program Manager

General Manager Robb Whitaker recently named Elsa Lopez the Program Manager of Education and Partnerships. In her new position, Lopez is responsible for overseeing the District’s education and conservation outreach programs and developing partnerships to foster a greater understanding of solutions to groundwater management and water quality challenges.

“Elsa brings a tremendous amount of outreach and coalition building experience to the Water Replenishment District and we are excited to have her on board,” said Whitaker.

Lopez has extensive experience with water-related issues that led her to South Africa with former Vice President Al Gore to partner with the South African Water Ministry as they implemented their first water conservation program. In addition, Lopez pioneered a water conservation effort for the City of Los Angeles and was recently honored by the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach for transforming a once forgotten city park into a vital habitat and resource for the community.

“I am pleased to become a member of the WRD team and proud to be joining an agency that is dedicated to protecting and improving our region’s groundwater supply, as well as providing education and community programs,” Lopez said. “Building partnerships with community organizations, environmental groups and agencies will be critical as we share WRD’s message throughout the region.”

Prior to joining the WRD, Lopez served as the Center Director for the National Audubon Society in Los Angeles. In that capacity, she built partnerships with various organizations, governmental agencies, businesses and elected officials to raise awareness for the Audubon Society’s family and educational programs. Lopez assisted in raising the profile of the Audubon’s nature center resulting in its recognition in more than 150 industry magazines. She was also instrumental in marketing the first and largest Earth Day event in the City of Los Angeles.
