Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) Director Rob Katherman was elected to serve on the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Region 8 board. Elected to represent issues, concerns and needs of the public water agencies in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, Katherman will start his 2-year term as part of the 7-member Region 8 board on January 1, 2008 for the largest coalition of public water agencies in the country.
"I am honored to have won the confidence of the public water agencies in Region 8," said WRD Director Rob Katherman. "One of my goals as the region representative is to educate decision makers and opinion leaders of the value of groundwater reliability, especially as our region and State face a water crisis."
Rob Katherman also serves as Vice President on the WRD Board of Directors and represents Division Two, which includes the cities of El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, and portions of Los Angeles including San Pedro and Wilmington. Director Katherman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, and an M.P.A. in Urban / Regional Planning from Cal State University in Long Beach, California.
WRD, created by voters in 1959, is a regional groundwater management agency that protects and preserves the quantity and quality of groundwater supplies for nearly four million residents in southern Los Angeles County. These groundwater basins provide nearly 40 percent of the total groundwater water demand used by the 43 cities in WRD's service area.
